BREAKWATER MEGA CHURCH MEMBERSHIP COMMITMENTS
The 6 BMC commitments will change your life and change the world around you.
- COMMIT YOUR LIFE TO CHRIST
- We are a Christian community of believers.
- The first commitment is to commit your life to Christ.
- It is foundational to know Jesus Christ as your personal Savior and Lord.
What does it mean to commit your life to Christ? Romans 10:9 “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.“
Matt 16:24
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. NIV
Tough times will challenge our commitment to Christ. Our daily prayers should include a plea that God’s will in heaven would be done on earth through us.
- COMMIT TO BEING A VITAL MEMBER OF THE BMC
- Be regularly involved in the Breakwater with your cheerful attendance.
- Be faithful to support and encourage each other.
- Be supportive of the spiritual leadership of the Breakwater.
Hebrews 10:25
Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another — and all the more as you see the Day approaching. NIV
Ephesians 2:19
So then, you are no longer foreigners and strangers. On the contrary, you are fellow-citizens with God’s people and members of God’s family, CJB
God doesn’t expect you to go through life without the support of other believers. We were never meant to handle all our problems and difficulties on our own. The body of Christ works together to help each other. We must stick together, especially as times get more difficult, to support and encourage each other.
- COMMIT TO SERVE IN THE BMC FAMILY
- Be faithful to support the Breakwater with your spiritual gifts and prayers.
Romans 12:4-6
For just as there are many parts that compose one body, but the parts don’t all have the same function; 5 so there are many of us, and in union with the Messiah we comprise one body, with each of us belonging to the others. 6 But we have gifts that differ and which are meant to be used according to the grace that has been given to us. CJB
- Commit to praying together and serving Jesus together.
1 Peter 4:10
Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.
- Each person is unique. Each one has a special place of service in Christ.
- Commit to growing in your faith and spiritual gifts.
- COMMIT TO THE MISSION
Luke 10:2-3
2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. 3 Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. NIV
- Do your part to: Pray, Send, Go
Mark 16:15
Jesus said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. NIV
Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” NIV
Matthew 24:14
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. NIV
- COMMIT TO THE COST OF BUILDING THE KINGDOM
The Christians at Philippi were Paul’s favorites among all his many churches and converts. Over 20 times in his short letter to the Philippians, Paul uses the words: joy, rejoice, peace, content, and thanksgiving. It is a letter overflowing with love and full of joy. In Philippians 4:1 Paul exudes the warmth of his love for them.
Philippians 4:1
Therefore, my brothers, you whom I love and long for, my joy and crown, that is how you should stand firm in the Lord, dear friends! NIV
On at least four occasions that we know of that the Philippian congregation sent Paul financial aid for his missionary work. Twice they sent him their offerings after he had left them and traveled to Thessalonica (Phil 4:15-16).
Philippians 4:15-16
15 You Philippians know very well that when I left Macedonia in the early days of preaching the Good News, you were the only church to help me; you were the only ones who shared my profits and losses. 16 More than once when I needed help in Thessalonica, you sent it to me. TEV
When Paul had continued to Corinth and was in financial need during his fruitful ministry the visit of Christians from Philippi, cheered his heart.
2 Corinthians 11:9
And when I was with you and needed something, I was not a burden to anyone, for the brothers who came from Macedonia supplied what I needed. I have kept myself from being a burden to you in any way, and will continue to do so. NIV
2 Corinthians 8:1-4
1 And now, brothers, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches. 2 Out of the most severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity. 3 For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, 4 they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints. NIV
Thirteen years had passed since Paul’s first visit to Philippi with his companions. Somehow, the Philippians heard that Paul was imprisoned in Rome and in need of their help. Thirteen years are a long time. People come and go. Memories fade. Yet their loyalty to the cause of the gospel is unabated. They were an amazing MISSIONARY church. No wonder Paul loved them so much after all the troubles he faced everywhere. Their generosity, zeal to finance missions and authentic Christianity are an example for the Breakwater to follow.
- COMMIT TO THE FINANCIAL STABILITY OF THE BREAKWATER
- Be faithful to support the BMC financially with your tithes and offerings.
Malachi 3:10
Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. NIV
Prov 19:17
He who is kind to the poor lends to the Lord,
and he will reward him for what he has done. NIVProv 11:24-25
One man gives freely, yet gains even more;
another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty.25 A generous man will prosper;
he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. NIV
MAKE THE COMMITMENT TO THE BODY OF CHRIST
CHANGE THE WORLD FOR GOOD
Acts 2:42
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. NIV
Rom 12:10-11
10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. NIV
